Chip in for Change: Hawthorn Heights Annual Charity Golf Tournament

Our Chip in for Change Charity Golf Tournament is Hawthorn Heights’ signature annual fundraising event supporting the mission of Hawthorn Heights WNC. This tournament brings together community members, sponsors, and supporters for a day of golf, connection, and impact—all benefiting safe housing and wraparound services for at-risk youth across Western North Carolina.

About the Event

The tournament is held each year at Smoky Mountain Country Club in Whittier, NC, featuring a 4-person scramble format with lunch included and optional on-course games and packages such as Mulligans, Red Tee, and Throw-a-Ball opportunities.

In our most recent tournament, the community came together in an incredible way, helping us raise well over $12,000 to directly support our youth and programs.

How the Funds Are Used

Funds raised through the tournament go directly toward supporting young people in our care by providing:

• Safe, stable housing for youth who may otherwise be unhoused or in unsafe living situations

• Basic needs support, including food, clothing, hygiene items, and transportation

• Educational support, such as tutoring, school supplies, and assistance with graduation pathways

• Life skills programming, including cooking classes, financial literacy, job readiness, and independent living skills

• Mental and emotional wellness support, helping youth access trauma-informed care and healthy coping resources

• Transition-to-adulthood services, including guidance as youth age out of foster care or enter independent living

• Community connection and mentorship, so no young person has to navigate these transitions alone

Every dollar raised helps create stability, dignity, and opportunity for youth working toward a stronger future.

When It Happens

Our tournament is typically held in early May, and registration for teams and sponsors generally opens in the early spring. Because interest continues to grow each year, we strongly encourage early registration and sponsorship commitments to avoid sell-outs.

Sponsorship Opportunities

Sponsorship opportunities are available at multiple levels, including our highly sought-after Platinum Sponsorship, which includes maximum visibility and promotion across:

• Event signage and on-course branding

• Facebook and social media features

• Website recognition

• Local billboard advertising

• And additional promotional materials throughout the event

Platinum sponsors receive the highest level of exposure and community recognition associated with the tournament.

Registration & Sponsorship Timing

• Sponsorships are typically confirmed in the months leading up to the event to allow time for logo collection, signage design, and printing
